# How to Assign Candidate Chats to Team Members in PastaHR

> Assign candidate conversations to specific team members in PastaHR to distribute workload, enable notifications, and keep communication accountable.

Conversations can be assigned to specific team members, which makes it easier to distribute work across the recruiting team. Assignment sometimes happens automatically and can also be done manually at any time.

## Automatic Assignment

When an application starts, PastaHR automatically assigns the chat to the account linked to the job in your connected ATS (e.g. SuccessFactors or Umantis). For this to work:

* Your ATS must be connected to PastaHR.
* The application link must include a `remote_job_id`.
* This ID must match an existing job in your ATS.
* The email address set on the ATS job must match an existing account in your PastaHR workspace.

Additionally, when a team member **replies to a chat**, they are automatically set as the responsible person for that conversation.

## Manual Assignment

There are two ways to assign a chat manually:

1. **Right-click** on the conversation in the chat list and select **Assign Person**.
2. **Open the conversation** and click **Assign** in the right sidebar.

You can assign **multiple people** to a single chat, useful when several colleagues are involved in a candidate's process. People can be removed from a chat assignment in the same way.

<Note>
  You can reassign a chat at any time. The newly assigned team member is notified.
